We illustrate some recent connections (and disconnections) discovered between some standard properties of rings, and their elements.  Of particular importance is the discovery of "better" inner inverses for von Neumann regular elements.

Pace P. Nielsen，美国杨百翰大学教授、博士生导师，2006年获得美国加州大学伯克利分校博士学位，2020年获杨百翰大学教授，主要研究方向为环论。在Israel J. Math., Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., J. Algebra., J. Pure. Appl. Algebra, Comm. Algebra等杂志上发表高质量论文60余篇，2012年获得杨百翰大学的杰出研究奖,2014年获得杰出市民奖,2020年获得杨百翰大学杰出教学奖，2016-2021担任Contributions to Algebra and Geometry，环论章节的编辑。现担任Communications in Algebra, International Electronic Journal of Algebra的编委。
